Whilst working remotely in our sector is not new for many of us, feeling part of the network in Scotland and knowing who you can ask for advice is more important than ever. Over the last ten months we have heard from many of you asking for ideas, resources and support about designing or re-designing digital interventions.

As well as our COVID-19 information list, we have signposted different resources about taking a principled approach to digital intervention designinvolving users in your design process, and thinking through how to design inclusive programmes. Do you want to share a case study or your experiences of how you went about digital design for a project?

Here at the Alliance we have a digital forum called the Alliance Community designed to connect members with each other to share experience and crowdsource solutions to challenges we all face. Over 140 different member organisations and nearly 300 individuals are signed up to the forum.

Here is a summary of November’s activity, which included:

  • Sign-ups from members Challenges Worldwide, the Homeless Word Cup Foundation and various individual members.  View the introductions thread to learn more about our new community users and their favourite development fuzzwords!
  • Signposting two upcoming events with OSCR about proposals to strengthen Scots Charity law on 2 and 9 December
  • Discussion of plans for Giving Tuesday on 1 December, what are your digital fundraising ideas?
  • A summary of the themes from a Bond webinar about how to gain funds from other UK Government departments including BEIS, DEFRA and the Joint Funds Unit
  • An overview of the lessons learned from a review of progress towards DFID’s strategy for disability inclusive development
  • A reminder that Alliance members can showcase their work on our Instagram channel, find out more about the types of projects we would like to help you platform
  • A request to compare calculations and methodology to see how much of a £1 donation is spent directly on programmes
  • A request to swap experiences about liability and travel insurance, as well as gift aid in relation to contributing to travel or accommodation costs
  • A request for reviews of the Invisible Grantmakers resource, do you use it within your fundraising research?
  • A request for members’ opinions of the database tool Lamplight, have you used it before?
  • Discussions from the Funding Working Group on the 26 November about corporate giving

Open partnership and collaboration requests include:

  • An opportunity to participate in the Youth to Work programme across Ghana, Zambia and Uganda run by Challenges Catalyst
  • A request to partner a Ugandan-based NGO working on a COVID-19 response project
  • A request to partner an Ethiopian civil society organisation working on education
  • An offer to demonstrate Amplio Talking Books
  • An offer to provide information on contacts for procuring PPE
  • An offer to provide Alliance members with intelligence services around political risk and economic intelligence

We recently heard from a member about the benefits of pursuing a collaboration request which we posted on the Alliance Community last year. Have you got a success story to share, or feedback you would like to gives us about the online discussion forum? If you do, please get in touch with Laura via email.
