Fairtrade Fortnight 25 February – 10 March 2019

For two weeks each year, thousands of individuals, companies and groups across the UK come together to celebrate the people who grow our food, people who live in some of the poorest countries in the world and who are often exploited and badly paid. This year the campaign is focusing on the people – in particular the women – who grow the cocoa in the chocolate we love so much.

Our friends over at Scottish Fair trade Forum are running a number of events across Scotland, check out their events calendar for full details.

Living Income Twitter Post Image.jpg

"Cocoa farmers in Côte d’Ivoire are surviving on less than 75 pence a day. That’s not even half what they need for essentials like their children’s schooling, family medical bills and clean water." - the Fairtrade Foundation

You can help raise awareness of these issues during the Fortnight by:

  • Signing the petition: tell the Prime Minister to support a global initiative of governments and business to reach living incomes for farmers and workers, starting with cocoa.

  • Watching and sharing The Story of Chocolate: Unwrapping the Bar.

  • Supporting independent, Scottish-based suppliers of Fairtrade cocoa and chocolate. Use this suppliers map to find stockists near you.

  • Sharing the message on social media: use the images and information from the Fairtrade Foundation's resource library.
