The Alliance opens its doors to individual members
We are delighted to announce the launch of our new category of Individual Membership, celebrating the contribution of individuals – alongside and in collaboration with organisations – as we work towards our collective vision of creating a fairer world.
This exciting step forward was marked by a launch event held on 15th May and hosted by former Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament and esteemed internationalist, Sir George Reid FRSE.
In his engaging speech at the event, Sir George Reid said:
“Opening Alliance membership to individuals means recognising that everyone is responsible for everything and that organisations are not the sole guardians of humanitarian action, wisdom or advocacy. Individuals bring wisdom and insight into organisations.”
The Alliance’s Chief Executive, Jane Salmonson, added:
“Partnership and collaboration across societal sectors has emerged as one of the defining concepts of international development. Fundamental to this is the need to bring together all societal sectors as key development actors in order to achieve more.
The Alliance is only as strong as its network, and our network is stronger with the involvement of individuals, who occupy a key role in our already diverse member base of 150+ organisations.”
We are delighted to welcome several new individual members into our network already, including postgraduate students studying International Development, consultants offering services in the sector, and others interested in international development from a personal or professional perspective.
As part of our launch year celebrations, we are also pleased to announce that new Individual Members will have the opportunity to attend our 2019 Annual Conference free of charge.
