Renew is a Scottish registered charity (SCIO) registered in 2012 to raise funds for the Park Rangers’ Widows and Orphans Project (PRWOP) in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The project is managed locally in DRC by the project manager Chief Park Ranger Jean Pierre Jobogo Mirindi. The project was started in 2008 as a direct, grass roots response by Park Rangers to help the families of colleagues killed protecting wildlife in the national park reserves of Virunga and Kahuzi-Biega National Parks.
We aim to deliver funds and support for the delivery of the services the project provides to its beneficiaries. These services include:
a) equipping and training women for independent sustainable livelihoods
b) enabling access to education for children
Renew seeks to identify and gain funds which are transferred directly to PRWOP for the continuation of the project’s work. Informally Renew also provides the project manager with guidance and support for capacity building and compliance procedures as required.
Together, we share a vision of hope and success with our partner project. In an area of great conflict and instability we operate a small scale, person-to-person enterprise engaging with local suppliers and trainers as required. Tempered by realistic expectations and limited resources the project developed steadily and slowly, continuing to grow whilst providing a direct source of support to its beneficiaries.
