Tearfund is passionate about the local church bringing justice and transforming lives - overcoming global poverty.

Our ten-year vision is to see 50 million people released from material and spiritual poverty through a worldwide network of 100,000 local churches. Working through local church based partners and partner organisations, our work spans 50 countries, particularly in Africa, Asia and South America - and also across Eastern Europe and the UK.

We focus on some of the biggest challenges facing the world today including: defeating diseases like HIV and AIDS; improving basic services such as access to clean water and sanitation; tackling disasters by responding to immediate and long term needs; restoring the environment by mobilizing individuals, churches and governments to take action and by helping poor people adapt to the reality of climate change; and resolving economic injustice.

Through financial, prayer and campaigning support from individuals and churches in the UK and Ireland, we are able to deliver vital support to some of the poorest and most vulnerable communities in the world.  Tearfund and our partners work with poor people around the world irrespective of their race, faith or nationality.

Our network of volunteers based in the UK also help us raise support within their churches and local communities.

We offer individuals and groups the opportunity to visit our partners overseas for between 2 weeks and six months, through our Transform and Connected Church trips.  Teams can focus on a variety of activities from physical work such as maintenance, building, making water tanks or digging, to more relational tasks with children, young people or adults.

Tearfund is a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), BOND (Bond Overseas NGOs in Development), the Micah Network, EU-CORD (European Union Christian Organisations in Relief and Development), People in Aid, the UK Consortium on AIDS and International Development, the Integral Alliance, the Evangelical Alliance and the European Christian Alternative Trading Association.
