Solas Educational Trust

Solas Educational Trust is a recognised Scottish charity established in 1999 by a number of people with an endowment. It's general purpose is to advance education, with reference in particular to Pakistan (though this does not exclude the possibility of working in other parts of the world). The intention of Solas is to support educational activity, likely to be of a small-scale nature that encourages a spirit of inquiry and promotes a critical and humane outlook on life. Solas is currently concentrating its resources in Chitral, a remote part of Pakistan. Solas works with schools which were set up on the initiative of local communities with good management and strong community support but which need external support for further expansion. Solas is working to raise funds to assist the schools in land purchase, transportation, building and teacher development. Solas also supports health education work within the schools, working with the Solas Health Education Committee, Chitral, which was established with the assistance of funding from Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland.
