Mercy Corps Europe

Mercy Corps' mission is to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people build secure, productive and just communities across the globe. The agency works amid disasters, conflicts, chronic poverty and instability to unleash the potential of people who can win against nearly impossible odds. Since 1979, Mercy Corps has provided over £750 million in assistance to people in 100 nations. Supported by headquarters in Europe and North America, the agency's global programmes reach nearly 16.4 million people in over 30 countries. Mercy Corps works in countries in transition, where communities are recovering from disaster, conflict or economic collapse. Our experience demonstrates that turmoil and tragedy often create opportunities for lasting, positive change. We add our greatest value on the ground by supporting those pockets of positive change with community-led market-driven action. Our projects can be defined under four main categories: civil society capacity building and conflict management - economic development - public health, water and the environment -disaster risk reduction and emergency relief.
