Books Abroad collect used school and library books which have reached the end of their useful life in this country. From our warehouse in Rhynie, we select and package the books (based on individual needs assessments) and send them to schools and other educational establishments overseas.
During 2013 Books Abroad sent almost 30 tonnes of books (approximately 150,000 books) overseas. Since Books Abroad's humble beginnings in 1982 we have sent 3 million books to over 2,200 educational establishments in 91 countries worldwide.
Books Abroad adheres to green policies, reducing waste in this country, by giving the books a second life overseas. Books which cannot be utilised are shredded and recycled.
During our 31 years in operation we have gained considerable experience in identifying the needs of the overseas educational establishments, developed cost effective methods of transporting the books overseas and sourced and retained a sound base of experienced volunteers.
Books Abroad are focused on developing (in country) partnerships to ensure continued cost effective and safe distribution of books.
