Hand Up Events

Hand Up Events (HUE) is a social action business that promotes and platforms fair & ethical trade through events: concerts, fashion shows, conferences and festivals.

Events such as Fair Trade Fiesta, The Ethical Christmas Fair, fashionABLE and Fair & Ethical Trade on the Fringe are funded through profit realised from our market style events and that attract international exhibitors from all around the world. Trade is a sustainable economic mechanism for people to lift themselves out of poverty and through fair trade means protecting producers working conditions, also supporting highly skilled artisans and in turn their wider communities.

Hand Up Events director Tania Pramschufer created World Fair Trade Tartan, designed with colours inspired by the World Fair Trade Organisation logo, to weave connections around the world through Fair Trade. Villageworks in Cambodia was the first country to weave the tartan outside of Scotland, using a six baton loom, and then making a range of high quality products. Development of the tartan with other WFTO’s across the globe will follow soon providing a sustainable income for World Fair Trade Organisations. Hand Up Events will be supporting the sale of the tartan products at its events and other retail outlets as well schools, colleges and universities. The tartan is woven by WFTO members in line with the 10 principles of Fair Trade. Scottish woven World Fair Trade Tartan kilts are also available through Braw Kilts with 40% profit going to WFTO and remnants from the making of kilts to World Fair Trade Organisation members to make smaller items, so no wastage of the tartan material.
