Volunteer Research Assistant - Mary's Meals

Location: Glasgow

Salary: This is a voluntary role

About the Organisation

Mary’s Meals is a global movement supported by people from many walks of life and different backgrounds. Its vision is that every child receives one daily meal in their place of education and that all those who have more than they need, share with those who lack even the most basic things.

In working towards this vision, its mission is to enable people to offer their money, goods, skills, time, or prayer, and through this involvement, provide the most effective help to those suffering the effects of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest communities.

About the Role

Mary’s Meals’ Strategic Partnerships and Policy team is looking for one or two volunteer Research Assistants who can organise and code transcripts from approximately 300 focus groups undertaken between 2014-2019 as part of our impact assessment research in Malawi, Zambia and Liberia. Using the coded data, the volunteers will generate analysis and reports on key themes.

Activities:

  • Applying best practices in qualitative data management to the coding, naming and storage of Mary’s Meals focus group and interview data.
  • Organising data from focus groups with children, teachers, volunteers and households, transferring data from Microsoft Word into Excel.
  • Coding focus group data in Microsoft Excel using agreed themes.
  • Developing and adapting the thematic framework for the data coding, as new themes arise.
  • Using the coded data to develop reports and analysis to support our impact assessment reporting.
