About the Organisation

The HALO Trust is a non-political, non-religious NGO which specialises in the removal of the hazardous debris of war. HALO’s mission is to lead the effort to protect lives and restore livelihoods threatened by landmines and the explosive remnants of war. 

HALO was founded in 1988 and with around 7,000 global staff, is the largest agency conducting this work in the world today. The organisation's HQ is based in South West Scotland. 


Role Description 

HALO is offering a social media internship (on a voluntary basis) based in Edinburgh, Scotland, to assist with content management and channel optimisation of our growing social media profiles. Under the guidance of our Social Media Manager, this 12-week internship aims to teach the principles of social media for non-profits, social media management and video creation and optimisation.

No previous experience required – this internship will be suitable for someone with a hard work ethic and a strong desire to learn.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Creating SRT subtitle files for videos
  • Organising and editing images for social media content
  • Assisting with digital media campaigns
  • Research and insights into our social media audiences and emerging trends
  • Content creation and editing for Instagram Stories
  • Facebook Fundraiser management and reporting
  • Managing and optimising the HALO YouTube account
  • Weekly social media reporting
  • Facebook ad account reporting



  • Must own your own laptop.
  • Must be able to dedicate 5-10 hours a week to the internship.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop useful but not essential.
  • Studying international relations, politics, international development is useful but not essential.
  • Proactive and excellent at working independently.
