Role Description 

MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB

To contribute to and implement GALVmed’s Commercial Development strategy; to identify market potential, projects and partners, make proposals for funding, and engage partners to deliver the projects. To be responsible for a specific range of GALVmed-funded Commercial Development initiatives in Africa with partner organisations to establish viable large-scale commercial distribution systems.

 

KEY ACTIVITIES

• Providing input into GALVmed Commercial Development strategy development and implementation through investigation and analysis of smallholder livestock health markets and systems.
• Building and maintaining an excellent relationship with potential project partners and collaborators.
• Building and maintaining an excellent relationship with active project partners, acting as the primary interface (project meetings, field visits, day-to-day contact as necessary, etc.)
• Project oversight – monitoring activity and results; assessing feedback from the partners; taking action as appropriate to optimize project outcomes; ensuring implementation of the partners’ contractual obligations; managing GALVmed project budgets; reporting
• Pro-active input into ongoing and new projects including the evaluation of opportunities and codevelopment of detailed business plans. Provide technical and marketing knowledge, ideas, contacts, innovation, access to GALVmed expertise, resources and network etc. to optimize outcomes

 

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS

• Degree in Life Sciences or other relevant subject
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the field of Animal Health or related life science industry
• Business management knowledge and experience including financials / strategic thinking
• Project management skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication (English), interpersonal and presentation skills
• Ability to interface and influence private sector and other organisations at a senior level
• Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout Africa
• Cultural sensitivity
• French an advantage
• Experience in Animal Health in Africa or other developing markets
• Drive & pro-activity
