About the Organisation

The HALO Trust is the world’s largest humanitarian mine clearance organisation. Their mission is to lead the effort to protect lives and restore livelihoods threatened by landmines and the debris of war.

They are engaged with humanitarian demining in 16 countries and four territories and they have a growing portfolio of programmes delivering weapons and ammunition management, including weapons disposal, ammunition disposal and physical security and stockpile management.

In their work to make people and places safe, they embed theirselves in local communities to build local capacity, they work closely with local and national governments, as well as aid and development partners, and ultimately prepare the way for development and long term stability.

Role and Responsibilities

Working under the supervision of the Head of ICT you will provide key IT support within the ICT department and to all end users across HALO. Your role will also include providing remote support to HALO’s projects overseas. Based at our headquarters in Thornhill, Dumfries, this is an excellent opportunity for anyone who would like to boost their career in IT.

Principal duties:

  • Assist end users on all aspects of IT support
  • Set up, or assist with, maintaining and administering desktops, servers, printers, fixed and mobile telephones, software and other IT peripherals
  • Maintain the computer network
  • Maintain the inventory of all ICT assets (software and hardware)
  • Manage the backup of data and systems and assist in disaster recovery
  • Help develop and maintain IT documentation, processes and procedures
  • Sourcing and purchasing ICT hardware and software in close coordination with the Logistics Department
  • Assist the Head of ICT and involvement in ICT projects, roll outs and implementation of projects within agreed timescales
  • Manage the deployment and updating of the anti-malware end point protection
  • Manage the deployment of patches to operating systems and applications
  • Maintain the register of information security incidents
  • Ensure that information security policies, copyright and data protection laws are upheld.

Person Specification

  • Existing experience of working in a similar position, and a relevant IT qualification beneficial
  • Microsoft operating systems (Windows 7, 8, 10)
  • Microsoft Office 2013/2016 Pro package
  • Computer networking
  • Server 2008/2012/2016 (DHCP, WSUS, Active Directory)
  • PC hardware
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and with no or little supervision
  • Ability to perform under time pressure
  • Ability to build good working relationships with a variety of people
  • Ability to learn new skills
  • Highly focused with a passion for IT and technology.

Desirable Skills

  • Office 365/Sharepoint Online
  • Mac Operating systems
  • Design of infographics
  • Experience implementing / knowledge of information security policies.
