Project Trust is an educational charity based on the Hebridean Isle of Coll. Since 1967 Project Trust has sent over 7,000 Volunteers to Africa, Asia and the Americas to a wide range of long-term volunteering projects including teaching, social care work, outdoor education and community development. 

 

Summary of Responsibilities:

Following recent organisational changes an exciting opportunity has arisen for an outstanding Head of Marketing, Recruitment & Communications to take responsibility for the development and implementation of an innovative marketing & communications strategy to expand and diversify our recruitment of potential Volunteers and to encourage a higher number of young people to sign up to the life changing opportunities international volunteering can afford.  


The Head of Marketing, Recruitment & Communications will also work with the fundraising team to find the best way to raise the profile of Project Trust, heighten understanding of our impact and increase income streams.  The role of Head of Marketing, Recruitment & Communications is a key post in Project Trust with responsibility for the overall management of Project Trust’s marketing, recruitment & communications activities both in the UK and overseas. As a member of Project Trust’s Senior Management team, managing an experienced team, the Head of Marketing, Recruitment & Communications is also expected to provide advice to the CEO and the Trustees, as appropriate, on the overall smooth running of the organisation’s marketing, recruitment & communications strategies

The position of Head of Marketing, Recruitment & Communications will be based in the Project Trust office on the Hebridean Isle of Coll and is expected to undertake mainland and some international travel on a regular basis. 

Other key duties include:

 

Strategy and Planning 

  • Develop and maintain an ongoing communications strategy and timeline to help achieve Project Trust’s strategic objectives, with a focus on recruiting Volunteers and increasing funding. 
  • Proactively identify and maintain strategic promotional opportunities, recruitment campaigns and partnerships for Project Trust. 
  • Manage the Department’s budgets within strict financial guidelines. 

Recruitment 

  • Review and develop a comprehensive Recruitment Strategy with the aim of recruiting circa 500 Volunteer candidates each year. 
  • Develop a schools’ engagement strategy to foster existing and establish new working relationships with schools and youth organisations. 

Marketing and Branding 

  • Manage the delivery of all Project Trust’s outgoing communications, both online and print, including social media, digital newsletters, Annual Report,  brochures,  posters, flyers, merchandise etc. 
  • Create digital marketing and visual content for Project Trust including website management, utilising SEO and Google analytics. 
  • Collect and produce documentary materials across all initiatives that key stakeholders will engage with, including photos, videos, quotes, case studies, blogs, relevant news articles and reports, impact statistics, etc. 
  • Develop and deliver training to staff and Volunteers on how to capture user-generated content.  
  • Produce our Annual Report, working alongside all departments within Project Trust.  
  • Appoint and manage external design agencies/freelance support as appropriate to create high quality resources and materials.   
  • Act as the brand guardian for Project Trust, ensuring that our message and branding are consistent. 
     

Communications 

  • Develop and deliver effective PR campaigns to help Project Trust recruit more Volunteers and increase our funding. 
  • Provide public relations support to the CEO, the Senior Leadership team and the Board in the event of an operational crisis or emergency situation. 
  • Provide public relations support and advice to the CEO, Senior Leadership team and Board as required. 
  • Ensure that all communications activities are delivered on time and in line with Project Trust’s mission and culture. 
  • Build relationships with journalists and media outlets to deliver multi channel coverage across all Project Trust projects. 
  • Identify and bring on board appropriate Patrons who can help to raise Project Trust’s profile. 

Relationship Management 

  • Work with the Overseas and Fundraising Teams to ensure that key stakeholders and funders are kept up to date with communications relating to all relevant Project Trust activity.  

People Management and Development 

  • Lead, develop and performance manage the Volunteer & Schools Engagement (Recruitment) and Communications team. 
  • Communications. Coach and advise members of other teams to enhance staff understanding of the importance and practice of effective marketing and communications relating to all relevant Project Trust activity.  

Evaluation 

  • Evaluate the success of Project Trust’s communications and ensure this feeds into our strategic objectives. 

Miscellaneous 

  • Co-ordinate the Teams’ involvement in all aspects of the Project Trust calendar: Selection, Training, and Debriefing.   
  • Participate in the emergency duty manager rota. 
  • Participate in Selection, Training and Debriefing courses as required. 
  • Attend Board, Senior Manager and Team meetings as required.
