About the role

We're looking for an enthusiastic and committed temporary events assistant with good IT and event management skills to help support the planning and running of our Annual Conference and AGM, which will take place virtually online on 1 st & 2nd December 2021.

This is a major event in the Alliance’s calendar, engaging our membership and offering a diverse programme with high profile speakers, 4 breakout sessions and networking opportunities.

Working in a supportive and friendly team, this is a great opportunity for someone who would like to gain hands-on experience of event management and expand their knowledge of the international development sector in Scotland.

Dates: 1st November 2021 – 10th December 2021 

Hours: 10-15 hours (flexi-time) per week until 26th November then must be available full days (9am-5pm) 30 November - 3 December. Final week 10 hours max (flexi-time) 

Location: Edinburgh (currently homebased due to Covid-19 restrictions) 

Salary: £12.50 per hour  

Reports to: Membership Engagement & Development Manager 

Contract type:  Short-term freelance 



• Support the planning of the Annual Conference

• Liaise with staff, speakers and session contributors

• Track and administer online event registration through Eventbrite

• Work with the staff team and contractors on event logistics

• Support the preparation of conference materials, including virtual delegate packs

• Compile speaker slides on PowerPoint

• Help with registration and other on-the-day activities at the Annual Conference, including online networking facilitation

• Assist with other administrative tasks as required

What we’re looking for you to bring

Skills and Experience


• Strong IT skills and the ability to pick up new systems and software quickly

• Confident user of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook

• Good written and verbal communication skills

• High level of attention to detail and accuracy

• An understanding of event planning and management requirements

• Ability to work in a team, as well as on own initiative

• Sympathetic to the aims of the Alliance and committed to maintaining its reputation

• Availability during office hours, and ability to commit to see the event to completion


• Interest in the Scottish international development sector and some understanding of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

• Prior experience of event management

• Experience using Eventbrite

• Customer service experience

• Ability to troubleshoot and proactively respond to issues as they arise
