Tuesday 5 June, from 17:15

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow

The President’s leadership lectures is a series of events exploring the concept of modern leadership in the context of current and future challenges in healthcare.  The first event in the series will focus on global health leadership. Internationally renowned speakers Professor John Meara and Dr McAdam will present both a strategic overview of the current situation of global surgery, and a practical description of life as a surgeon in the African bush.

Professor John Meara

Professor John Meara is Kletjian Professor of Global Surgery in the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, Professor of Surgery and Director of the Program in Global Surgery and Social Change within the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School.  John is also the Co-Chair for the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery, an initiative focused on improving global health by increasing access to safe and affordable surgery in the world’s poorest regions.

Dr David McAdam

Dr David McAdam has spent his entire career as a missionary surgeon in central Africa, working in a series of remote settings in both Congo and Zambia and represents a wonderful example of a ‘boots on the ground’ approach to surgical provision. His clinical experience and breadth of speciality expertise is virtually unparalleled.
