The Alliance is hosting ‘Safeguarding Question Time’ on Thursday the 21st of February at The Gathering. The Gathering is the biggest third sector event of the year, organised by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO). The Alliance is also one of the exhibitors for this year’s Gathering and will be found at stand number 31.
Safeguarding has been under considerable scrutiny following heightened media attention on the international development sector in 2018 and abuses that had taken place in development and humanitarian work.
It is essential that third sector organisations, particularly those working in partnership either domestically or internationally, have robust policies, practice and procedures that strive to go beyond compliance, and towards a gold standard of safeguarding. Organisations in Scotland must be supported in the development and implementation of safeguarding policies and procedures.
This event will include introduction of the recently published Safeguarding package developed by Scotland’s International Development Alliance with support from the Scottish Government; provide the opportunity to hear progress on the Resource and Support Hub from DfID; and clarify regulatory requirements with OSCR, while also helping participants to familiarise themselves with a range of other support options at Scottish and UK level. Most importantly, this will be time to ask questions, seek information and provide suggestions around Safeguarding.
